(title of vol. III missing; skilfully washed, some marg. tears strengthened or corners repaired, sm. holes in text pp. 217 & 573 of vol. II, wormtrack in p. 113 of vol. III with loss in the printed marginalia). Contemp. marbled calf, gilt orn. spines with raised bands (rebacked, repairs to edges and corners, flyleaves renewed). First French edition by Nicolas Perrot d'Ablancourt, published posthumously, of this historical work on Africa (1st ed. in Spanish: 1573-1599). Contains descriptions of Ethiopia, Zanzibar, Mozambique, Portuguese possessions on the East Coast of Africa, gold mines of Sofal, etc. With 27 maps on double page by Nicolas Sanson ("Arabie, Petrée, Déserte, et Heureuse", "L'Empire du Sophy des Perses", "Sorie et Diarbeck", Hungary, Italy, Kingdom of Congo, Upper Ethiopia, "Zanguébar", Morocco, India, Cabo Verde, etc.). Third vol. includes the "Histoire des Chérifs" by Diego Torres in a translation of Pierre Richelet (without the 2 portraits in front.). Luis del Marmol (1520?-1600) lived for many years in the Moorish Granada kingdom and in the North African Berber regions.
