An 1857 percussion musqueton for gendarmerie

dating: Third quarter of the 19th Century provenance: France, Rifled, round, 18 mm cal. barrel (signs of use on the inner side, visible groove), with foresight and clutch for the bayonet, octagonal breech dated 'C 1866', marked 'F' and 'L' inside circles, with 'C' surmounted by a crown and 'MI'. Tang with fixed rear sight and caption 'M.le 1857' clearly visible. Backward spring lock marked 'M.re Imp.le de Chatellerault' and with mark 'M' inside a shield and surmounted by a star. Working mechanics (the first snap does not trigger the safety lock). Three-quarter wooden stock with various stamps clearly visible on the left side of the butt side, on the right side marks 'MI' and 'AVRIL 1866'. Brass mounts all with various clearly legible marks. Iron ramrod. length 114,5 cm.
