BIZZARRI, Pietro (ca.1530-1583) - Senatus populique Genuensis rerum domi forisque gesatrum historiae atque annales. Antwerp: Christopher Plantin, 1579. First edition, rare on the market, of this history of Genoa. The work was added to the Index in 1590, probably at the request of Umberto Foglietta, official historian of the Republic of Genoa, who had just concluded his history of the city. Pages 371-376 are dedicated to the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus and the work also deals with Corsica, from its origin to its history. Folio (335 x 217mm). Woodcut printer's device on title, arms of the city of Genoa printed in red and back on verso, woodcut headpieces and initials (occasional light browning, few tiny wormholes to the final leaves, erased early ownership note on title). Contemporary limp vellum, later manuscript title on spine (without ties, light staining). Provenance: BAZW (bookplate) - Bibliothek Zurich e Archivium V. Prov. Helvetica (cancelled stamps). Prima edizione, difficile a reperirsi sul mercato, di questa storia di Genova. L'opera fu messa all'Indice nel 1590, probabilmente su richiesta di Umberto Foglietta, storico ufficiale della Repubblica di Genova, che aveva appena concluso la propria storia della città. Le pagine 371-376 sono dedicate alla scoperta del Nuovo Mondo da parte di Cristoforo Colombo e l'opera tratta anche della Corsica, dalla sua origine alla sua storia. Folio (335 x 217mm). Marca tipografica al frontespizio, stemma della città di Genova stampato in rosso e nero al verso, iniziali e fregi xilografici (occasionali lievi bruniture, minuscoli fori di tarlo alle ultime carte, antica nota di possesso cancellata al frontespizio). Pergamena floscia coeva, titolo manoscritto posteriormente al dorso (senza lacci, lievi macchie). Provenienza: BAZW (exlibris) - Bibliothek Zurich e Archivium V. Prov.
